Another interesting feature of Centaurus A is, unfortunately, too dim to see in this photograph. A series of faint filaments that look much like jellyfish tendrils stretches up and away from the galaxyΓÇÖs central region. The tendrils dwarf the central nucleus and extend out to about 130,000 light years. The filaments accompany a jet of particles spewing huge amounts of energy from the nucleus. While the filaments are almost impossible to see in visible light, they show up strongly at radio and x-ray wavelengths.
